Norco
Manufacturing Corp., Franksville, Wis., engineered and manufactured
the door systems that were required to mirror the original 1941
architecture at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla. Norco
replicated the window sizes and distinctive style while also
engineering upgrades to meet current hurricane standards. Wire mesh
was laminated into the windows to provide the required impact
resistance. The door paint is an exact color match to the original
paint and is a special epoxy that withstands the corrosive salt
air. A 200-foot- (61-m-) wide by 38-foot- (12-m-) high, 10-leaf
bi-parting door system with motorized controls was specified for
each of the base's four hangars.
The general contractor was Chugach Management Services,
Tampa.
