An existing 1950s Army National Guard Hangar in South
Burlington, Vt., was stripped down to its steel and concrete
skeleton in hopes of designing a sustainable, high-performance
structure for Heritage Aviation. The structure is known as the
Fixed Base Operator, Burlington, Vt.-based Trex Cullins &
Partners Architects was the architect and genertal contractor on
the project.

Kingspan Insulated Panel Inc.'s Designwall 1000 and Designwall 2000
provided a thermally improved building envelope solution to help
reduce energy consumption. CEO Chris Hill has stated that he hopes
Heritage's annual energy consumption will be reduced from 1 million
kWh to 600,000 kWh.
The Fixed Base Operator has since been recognized by Efficiency
Vermont for winning the Best of the Best in Commercial Building
Design and Construction in 2010 and also received the Hertzel N.
Pasackow Architectural Excellence Award.
