Located in Reno, Nev., and
named after educator and fourth generation Nevadan, Kendyl Depoali,
the new Kendyl Depoali Middle School serves as the prototype for
future middle schools in the Washoe County School District.
Designed by VanWoert Bigotti Architects, Reno, the $37 million,
198,000-square-foot facility provides an environmentally friendly,
sustainable solution for a multi-building educational facility. The
design team sought ways to simplify the arrangement of program
components to offer site adaptability and create a design that
evokes fresh imagery for a renewed interest in school pride through
architectural identity.
Richard Joseph and Co., Sparks, Nev., installed approximately
23,000 square feet of SinoCore field assembled exterior cladding
system in Reserve White and Regal Blue from Indianapolis-based
Citadel Architectural Products Inc.
"Metal was selected as a prominent building material early in
the design process due to its many desirable characteristics,"
notes Angela Bigotti-Chavez, design architect. "The combination of
the Citadel panels, concrete masonry and glass was the perfect
palette to achieve architecture that is both timeless and
contemporary."
Distrubuted by Pacific Architectural Products, Clackamas, Ore.,
SinoCore panels utilize a one and two-piece perimeter trim molding
attachment system that makes for an easy installation, according to
Dan Sorenson, vice president of construction with Richard Joseph
and Co. "You have 4-by-8 and 4-by- 10 panels right at the site
along with the extrusions and you basically cut-to-size and install
right there."
