In 2007, Pratt
Industries Inc., the sixth largest paper and packaging company in
the U.S., made a commitment to invest $1 billion in recycling and
green energy infrastructure within the next 10 years. Working
towards that promise, Pratt Industries recently built the most
advanced recycled paper mill in the world in Shreveport, La.
Located adjacent to its new materials recovery facility, the
completed mill features 159,674 square feet (14,834 m2) of 2-inch-
(51-mm-) thick KingZip Insulated Standing-Seam Roof Panels from
Kingspan Insulated Panels Inc., Deland, Fla.
Pratt Industries is dedicated to the environment and works to
encourage recycling and clean energy. Using environmentally
sensitive solutions on its facilities was essential to the company,
and Kingspan's KingZip panels' thermal performance, recycled
content, long product life and building envelope contributions help
reduce the demand for energy to create a comfortable atmosphere for
building occupants. KingZip panels also meet the requirements for
LEED, Energy Star and Cool Roofs.
KingZip provided design flexibility and aesthetics that appealed to
Pratt Industries, including a thermally broken concealed clip
design, which helps reduce heat loss through the sidejoint and
minimizes the possibility of condensation at the clip assembly.
KingZip also minimizes the need for through fasteners that
penetrate the external facing and the panel's vertical side seam
and integral batten provide an attractive liner accent.
The pre-engineered, 42-inch- (1,069-mm-) panel allows for
single-step installation, helping to meet the project deadlines.
Completed in September, the new mill, along with Pratt Industries'
other two recycled paper mills, will help recycle more than 1
million tons (900,000 metric tons) of paper every year, reducing
approximately 1.2 tons (1.08 metric tons) of greenhouse gas
emissions and saving more than 13 million trees, according to the
Louisiana Department of Economic Development.
SRS Inc., Cincinnati, was the distributor, and Commercial
Industrial Sheet Metal, Bolivar, Ohio, was the installer.
