Perforated panels meet code

Fifth St. in Austin, Texas, a five-level parking garage. Precoat Metals coated 0.4-inch aluminum in Valspar custom colors and shipped it to McKey Perforating. The panels were specified to have 60 percent perforation. The coil was re-coiled after going through the punching process and shipped to McElroy Metal, where it was formed into Multi-Cor profile panels.

Four Sherwin-Williams paint colors were used for the panels: Lounge Green, Software, Cyberspace and Online. The Lounge Green, non-perforated panels were designed to block headlights of traffic inside the garage. "The green is associated with environmentally friendly colors and it provides an energetic feel along with some pop to the building," says Stephanie Guariglia, senior associate at Sixthriver Architects. "The other colors varied from gray to black, so we established a pattern that provided the look of movement as opposed to a flat checkerboard."
