Zinc places resort in historical surrounding

For the St. Regis Lhassa Resort in Lhassa, Tibet, Denniston International Architects & Planners Ltd., Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, selected VMZ Roll cap panels in ANTHRA-ZINC from Umicore Building Products USA Inc., Raleigh, N.C., for the roofing. The panels were chosen for being suitable for mountainous climates, their originality and ability to create singular forms.

The designers opted for an architectural style with traditional pagoda-shaped roofs. The dark grey zinc panels were installed using a traditional Parisian roll cap roofing technique; flat lock capping was used to adapt the roofing to the harsh climate.

China Construction Fifth Engineering Division Corp. Ltd., Changsha, China, was the contractor. This was the first time the local installation contractor worked with zinc and training was provided by VMZINC's local technical expert, who monitored the project through the work-site phase.

The St. Regis Lhassa Resort is located in the heart of a historical city opposite Potala Palace, which is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, and is near Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama's former summer palace. The resort offers a refined setting with elegant accommodation against a backdrop of majestic mountains.
