At the Metal Construction Association meeting earlier this year, many manufacturers mentioned that November and December 2012 had been very quiet months. In the construction industry, architects are the first to report changes in activity, and our 27th Annual Metal Architecture Architects Survey shows that architects are still feeling strong about the economy. They report increased anticipation for specifying metal roofing, metal wall panels, metal framing systems and metal building systems.

Interestingly, the same group that is reporting higher numbers for metal building product specifications, says that they will be less likely to submit projects for LEED and other green certifications compared to the respondents from last year. That trend is picked up in a slight lightening of interest in photovoltaics and cool metal roofs.

Metal Architecture conducted the survey during January and February 2013, so we need to be cautious that we are reflecting as much an attitude during a particular time period as strong trends.
