The building consisted of 128 tons of steel. It has multiple roof planes and varying roof pitches, with hip and valley conditions. Moore found a way to overcome these challenges and more. The final result was the project being awarded the highly coveted 2017 Building of the Year honor from Chief Buildings[1], Grand Island, Neb.

The one aspect of the job that Moore knew would not be a challenge was the snow retention, DYNA-GUARD by Dynamic Fastener[2], Raytown, Mo. DYNA-GUARD is a rail-style snow retention system.

The DYNA-GUARD system consists of the following:

The MMS team installed over 500 feet of DYNA-GUARD on the Martha’s Vineyard Airport Fire Station project. When asked about the DYNA-GUARD system, Moore comments, “MMS Northeast has been exclusively utilizing DYNA-GUARD snow retention on all our metal roofs since 2015. With over 180 projects all across the United States, on roof pitches from low slope up to 10:12 pitched roofs, we have found the DYNA-GUARD system to be extremely reliable and easy to install. We have never had a report of damage or call backs due to DYNA-GUARD not performing as intended.”

Moore also adds, “The support from Tim Harms and the rest of the Dynamic Fastener team in assisting with design, product selection and timely delivery has helped MMS provide our clients with reliable metal building systems.”

MMS has found other uses for the DYNA-CLAMP on its standing seam metal roofs to prevent damage. See illustration (above left) for keeping gas lines attached to roof without damaging the panels.
