However, in New York City, where real estate is limited and expensive, Stop & Stor[1] has approached the self-storage market in an unconventional way.

To accommodate the urban area and unique customer requirements, the company converts existing buildings into high-end, multi-level storage facilities. To accomplish this, Stop & Stor needed a partner that could identify, recommend and supply the individual parts required to fit within the retrofitted space and create the perfect storage solution.

Partnering with Douglasville, Ga.-based DBCI[2] allowed Stop
& Stor to achieve the vision it was looking for. Given building blueprints and an outline of unit placement, DBCI generated material lists for the floor plan and provided all non-structural components to retrofit the existing building, including doors, hallways, double-stacked lockers and divider partitions. DBCI was able to supply the individual parts needed to create a custom storage solution in a space that is both conveniently located and functional.

The partnership between DBCI and Stop & Stor has transformed the traditional storage environment, and resulted in an increased focus on customer needs. Today, the storage facility provides a heated drive-in section of the building to protect the customers and their valuables from weather while loading and unloading. Stop
& Stor also plays music on every level to create a welcoming space designed to enhance the customer experience.
