Kingspan Insulated Panels North America[1], a global manufacturer of insulated metal panels, announced the launch of its Kingspan Legacy Competition[2]. The first-place prize is a $5,000 scholarship to an educational institution in the winner’s name, selected by the winner, and an Apple MacBook Pro. In addition, the winning entry will be published in the November issue of Architect magazine
Open to architects and architectural students, the competition supports the new Kingspan Legacies are Built[3] campaign, which is predicated on the notion that Kingspan products partner in and facilitate long-lasting structures that bear the unique signature of the architects who designed them. The contest challenges participants to design and construct legacy-worthy structures, using paper and scissors, and submit them in one of four categories: commercial, institutional, industrial, retail and corporate (low-rise).
Contestants can register for the competition online and download contest materials from a new microsite – www.legaciesarebuilt.com[4]. Upon completing their buildings, contest participants should upload photographs of their buildings to the Legacies are Built microsite, where site visitors can vote on their favorite design. The ten entries that receive the most votes will then be judged by a panel of architects and industry experts. In the event a student wins the competition, the scholarship will be applied toward the winner’s education.
The competition closes Sept. 1, and winners will be announced at Greenbuild 2011. Second- and third-place winners will each receive an Apple iPad 2.
