| Brightsmith Coil Coaters began using rail service in October 2013. |
Brightsmith Coil Coaters LLC[1] continues to implement innovation in all aspects of the industry, increasing its competitive edge with the addition of rail service at its headquarters facility in Morrisville, Pa. The first rail service began on Oct. 16, 2013, and has been yet another step the company has taken over the past five years to enhance quality, increase yields and improve efficiency.
“We are always looking for ways to advance our services while improving efficiency and pricing for our customers,” said Frank Coffey, general manager of Brightsmith. “In almost all cases, there can be considerable savings on freight charges with our new rail service.”
With both Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Corp. servicing the Brightsmith facility, customers now have a wider variety of options that can be tailored to fit specific needs. To begin the rail service process, a customer informs a steel or aluminum mill that Brightsmith has rail access. The mill will offer the customer freight pricing for both truck and rail shipping, and the customer can decide the method of shipment. One advantage of using the rail service is that each rail car has the ability to hold 220,000 pounds of material, which removes four tractor trailers from the road.
Coffey noted: “We have made considerable improvements to machinery and technology over the past few years, and these advancements have ensured a quality coil coating process for our customers. Offering rail service with possible improved pricing is just another way we are listening to our customers and addressing their needs.”
In 2014, Brightsmith plans to be able to unload skidded coils with the addition of new machinery. For this and other Brightsmith announcements, please visit www.brightsmithcoaters.com.
