SAF (Southern Aluminum Finishing Co. Inc.)[1] introduces the SAF Series M4000 Drained and Back Ventilated Rain Screen. The new commercial building panel system is rated per AAMA 509-09 requirements, and was tested for air and water resistance per ASTM 283 and 331.
The Series M4000 is similar to SAF’s Series 4000, but is manufactured with 0.125 aluminum panels instead of Aluminum Composite Material (ACM). The fabricated SAF panels in the Series M4000 system include a factory attached frame extrusion that makes for an easy fit into the horizontal and vertical track extrusions on the job site. Like the 4000, the M4000 comes with fabricated panels and track extrusions that are shipped loose. SAF offers training for fabricating this system and will sell the extrusions separately.
Because the panels are batch painted rather than coil coated, custom colors are more economical than ACM on small and midsize projects.
“The introduction of SAF’s Series M4000 Rain Screen gives our commercial contractor customers another panel system option that has a higher recycled value and is available in small batches of custom colors,” according to Penn McClatchey, SAF co-CEO. As with any rain screen system, the installer must install a weather barrier beneath the rain screen for proper performance.
SAF’s east and west coast production facilities for the 4000 can provide rapid and reliable service to anywhere in North America.
