YKK AP America, Inc[1]. (YKK AP), recently introduced the Model 50H wide stile door as its newest addition to the ProTek[2] product line. The Model 50H adds a 5″ wide stile option to the ProTek door line-up to complement Model 35H, a 3-1/2″ medium stile option. The door achieves exceptional impact resistance, while also exceeding the most stringent energy codes.
“The Model 50H door is the ideal solution for the architect looking to add dimension and scale to their next coastal design,” said Mike Turner, vice president of marketing for YKK AP. “Within the last five years architects had limited design options for commercial impact or blast mitigation doors. YKK AP has made a concerted effort to provide a range of tested door and hardware assemblies that meet the most stringent codes.”
Designed to integrate with both storefront and curtain wall-framing systems, the Model 50H door has been tested to meet the stringent standards of: Florida’s High Velocity Hurricane Zone (Miami-Dade and Broward Counties), Blast Mitigation Testing – ASTM F 1642 – Level 2, and Water Performance – ASTM E 331 -10.5 PSF. The new door was also tested in accordance with ASTM E 1886, ASTM E 1996, and it passed the Large Missile D test, to protect against large projectiles during high wind events. It can also incorporate lighter-duty glazing options that meet Small Missile A tests to protect against smaller projectiles such as roof gravel from adjacent buildings.
The door was tested with a variety of locking, hinging and threshold options such as:
This wide variety of hardware, style and rail options provides architects with the flexibility that has only been previously associated with non-impact entrance systems.
The Model 50H door derives its strength from its all aluminum stile and rail construction and unique corner design, which features welded seams. It gets its energy efficiency from a unique glazing pocket design, which can accommodate up to 1″ laminated insulating glass. The 2-3/8″ thick door panel can accommodate a variety of insulated or monolithic glazing options ranging in thickness between 1/4″ and 1″. Both wet and dry glaze options are available up to 90 PSF.
The Model 50H door is available in single panel widths to 4′-0″, double-door widths of 8′-0″, and heights to 8′-0″. It is available in multiple rail heights as well as with muntins between the glass.
