Architects can earn up to 8.25 continuing education credits in one power-packed day of educational sessions and networking opportunities at the 2014 ALA Midwest Architecture Conference and Product Show[1], to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Drury Lane Conference Center, Oakbrook Terrace, IL.
The conference, hosted by the Association of Licensed Architects[2] (ALA), also features more than 80 product exhibits and a keynote address at 4:15 pm by Gordon Gill, FAIA, founding partner of award-winning Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture[3]. His keynote, “The Beauty of Utility,” will focus on the exploration of designs and platforms that expand the concept of beauty beyond the aesthetic to include purposeful performance-based solutions at all scales of the built environment. He’ll discuss recent work, including the world’s first large-scale positive energy building, Masdar Headquarters; the world’s tallest tower, Kingdom Tower in Jeddah Saudi Arabia and most recently the design of Astana Expo 2017 and its sustainable legacy community for Astana, Kazakhstan.
Registration for the conference and continental breakfast starts at 7:30 am, with the conference beginning at 8 am and ending at 7:30 pm. A continental breakfast, buffet luncheon and “After 5” social are included with full-day registration.
Register until Sept. 12 for early-bird pricing on full-day packages, which include the keynote address, seminars, product show, continental breakfast, buffet lunch and “After 5” social, and are $150 for members and $175 for non-members. After Sept. 12, package prices increase to $175 for members and $200 for nonmembers. Students and new graduate conference registration is
$35 for members and $45 for nonmembers for the full day; after Sept. 12, prices increase to $45 for members and $55 for nonmembers.
In addition, this year ALA is offering a modified conference and show package with registration beginning at 3 pm. The package includes the show, keynote address, “After 5” social and one evening session from 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. The package is available to members for $85 with registration until Sept. 12 and
$110 after Sept. 12. Nonmembers may register for the modified day package for $110 until Sept. 12 and $135 after Sept. 12. The modified package is also available to students and new graduates for reduced rates: $25 for members and $35 for nonmembers until Sept. 12 and $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers after Sept. 12.
Register online until noon on Sept. 24 at alacon.com[4] or call 847-382-0630. Admission to the product show, which is open from 9 am to 4 pm, is free.
“This year’s conference offers our members unequalled education and networking opportunities,” says Joanne Sullivan, ALA Executive Director. “We have 25 seminars on subjects ranging from codes and contracts to energy efficiency and performance and sustainable materials.”
