Architects and design professionals can learn about acoustics and sound control, 3D data, working with building officials, moisture control and water barrier management, energy codes, “green” upgrades and more at the 2013 Architecture Conference & Product Show Oct. 22 at the Drury Lane Conference Center, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. The conference, hosted by the Association of Licensed Architects (ALA), also features more than 80 product exhibits. Design professionals can choose from 13 seminars, all qualifying for 1.5 learning units of continuing education requirements.
Registration for the conference and continental breakfast starts at 7:30, with the conference beginning at 8 am. The luncheon, which is included with full-day registration, will be held from 12-1 pm followed by a keynote address from 1-2:30 pm by Kai-Uwe Bergmann, partner at the trailblazing Danish architecture firm BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group. Bergmann will speak about the firm’s “Yes Is More” design philosophy, which bridges the extremes of the avante garde and pragmatic predictability to create socially, economically and environmentally perfect places as a practical objective. This keynote address will demonstrate how BIG has applied this positive approach to building design to its practice and work with clients.
Conference sessions run from 8 am to 5 pm. Register by October 15 for early-bird pricing on full-day packages, which include the keynote address, seminars, product show, continental breakfast and buffet lunch, and are $135 for members and $160 for non-members. After Oct. 15, package prices increase to $150 for members and $180 for nonmembers.
In addition, this year ALA is offering a special event package for students and unlicensed interns so they may attend a shortened day of programs specific to their interests. The program includes an address by Harry M. Falconer Jr., AIA, Director of the Intern Development Program (IDP) on NCARB and You: IDP, ARE & Certification. The package is available for $35 with pre-registration before Oct. 15 and $45 after Oct. 15 and includes entrance to the product show, presentation, buffet lunch and keynote address.
Register online until Oct. 18 at www.alatoday.org[1] or call 847-382-0630. Admission to the product show, which is open from 9:15 am to 4 pm, is free.
