CRRC’s 100+ wall ratings offer superior building performance

The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC)[2] announced it issued third-party product ratings for more than 100 exterior paint and siding products on its Wall Products Directory.

The Wall Products Directory has independently verified ratings of solar reflectance and thermal emittance (radiative properties) of participating products. The radiative property ratings show the ability of a product to reflect solar energy away from a building and cool itself by radiating absorbed heat, improving resilience to heat, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and reducing cooling energy use.

CRRC Wall Product Ratings are obtained through participation in the CRRC Wall Product Rating Program. The CRRC began accepting wall product rating applications in January 2022. The Wall Products Directory launched in September 2022, which coincided with approval of the first wall product ratings.

As of July, there were 111 rated products in the Wall Products Directory from seven manufacturers and two product categories: architectural coatings (i.g. exterior paint) and metal siding.

Jeffrey Steuben, executive director at CRRC, says, “The CRRC is proud of the growth and success of the wall program over the past two years and pleased with meeting this milestone.”
