Natural metals projects were featured in Metal Architecture’s January 2023 issue.

Americlad produces column covers in a variety of metals including stainless steel. Gauges range from 22- to 11-gauge steel. There are two alloys typically used in architecture: the 304 alloy is the most common, and the 316 alloy is more corrosive resistant and often used in coastal areas. Stainless steel column covers are offered in a selection of finishes and textures.

RHEINZINK America’s RHEINZINK-prePATINA Blue-Grey architectural zinc withstands and can be used in coastal conditions. The zinc has a service life of 80 years or more and is 100% recyclable. RHEINZINK-prePATINA Blue-Grey architectural zinc is produced by accelerating the natural metal’s patination process under factory-controlled conditions before the material is fabricated into wall cladding and other components.

Sheet Metal Supply produces a variety of building components in A606 weathering steel including corrugated panels, standing seam panels and flatlock panels. The steel is formable, machinable and weldable. The material’s natural weathering process can contribute to rustic designs. Weathering steel develops a protective layer that gives it a service life of 40 to 60 years, or longer. Optionally, prior to installation, interior panels in A606 weathering steel can be stored in an exterior environment to jumpstart the weathering process.
