Pre-engineered Metal Building Earns Award

The East Lycoming Career & Technology Center in Hughesville, Pa., is an important career and technical education facility with the goal of helping students from four area school districts transition successfully into the workforce. To streamline construction of the 11,674-square-foot (1,085-m2) facility, the East Lycoming School District opted to use a pre-engineered steel building rather than conventional construction. This option allowed the project to be completed in only five months—from May to September 2006.

The metal building, engineered by B.K. Structural Systems, Bloomsburg, Pa., features a Star Building Systems SRHI structural system and StarShield roof in Classic Green. The wall system is a combination of masonry block and Star Building’s StarTherm insulated panel system in slate gray. Dormers provide an architectural accent to the StarShield roof. The architect was McKissick Associates, Harrisburg, Pa., and the general contractor and steel erector was Robert Feaster Corp., Northumberland, Pa. Robert Feaster Corp. was presented with a 2006 Master Builder Award, Best of School category, by Star Building Systems, Oklahoma City, for the design and appearance of the $2.6 million career center.
