Roof underlayments featured in Metal Architecture’s October 2020 issue.

CertainTeed Corp.

CertainTeed offers its WinterGuard Metal roof underlayment for metal, shingle, slate or mechanically fastened tile roofs. It is a self-adhering and slip resistant. WinterGuard Metal is unaffected by high temperatures caused by sun exposure during installation or when placed under metal roofing. It comes in rolls of 39 3/8 inches wide by 61 feet long. Coverage area is 200 square feet per roll.

Drexel Metals Inc.

Drexel Metals’ Metshield is a high-temp, synthetic, peel-and-stick roof underlayment. It has a high-tensile strength and is a 40-mil, SBS-modified bitumen with a UV-resistant, anti-slip polyethylene woven top facer. The roof underlayment has a skid-resistant surface and may be used with metal, asphalt and slate shingles and tiles, and a variety of sloped roof materials.

McElroy Metal

McElroy Metal’s HydraShell MAX and HydraShell Supreme SA are synthetic underlayments. HydraShell MAX has four-layer construction and is used under all types of finished roofing materials including steel roofing. It is suitable for roof pitches as low as 1/2:12. HydraShell Supreme SA is a high-temp, peel-and-stick underlayment.

MFM Building Products Corp.

MFM Building Products’ Ultra HT Wind and Water Seal is a 45-mil, self-adhering, waterproofing roof underlayment. It is made of a cross-laminated, non-slip polymer film laminated to a high-temperature, rubberized, asphalt adhesive. The roof underlayment comes in a 36-inch-wide, two-square roll.

Polyglass USA Inc.

Polyglass’ Polystick XFR is a self-adhered, fire-resistant roof underlayment. It works in high-temperature applications including steel and copper roofing. The roof underlayment is rated to withstand temperatures to 265 F. It has Burn-Shield technology and provides UL Class A fire ratings for combustible decks. It also has ADESO dual-compound, self-adhered technology with an SBS (elastomeric)-modified bitumen upper compound and self-adhesive compound on the bottom.
