Mukwonago, Wis.-based Banker Wire supplied stainless steel flat wire woven into its S-18 pattern mesh, a mid-scale basket weave, for the walls in architecture firm IBI Group’s office gallery and technology boardroom in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The checkered pattern’s low percent open area allows it to reflect color and light, adding warmth to the office space.
Harrison Horan, vice president of Banker Wire, says his company provided turnkey services for the project including weaving the wire mesh, fabricating the appearance and developing an attachment method. “This particular wire mesh has a basket-weave texture that allows the walls to peek through,” Horan says. “Layering the mesh creates a visually pleasing 3-D effect.”
IBI Group wanted the cladding to have a natural edge, which required Banker Wire to fold the wire mesh over at its ends to form a rectangular prism over the original wall. IBI Group also requested a system that held the mesh away from the wall with no visible means of connection.
Banker Wire formed and framed wire mesh wall tiles with hidden brackets that are imperceptible from the front. The mesh cladding adds texture and depth to the space without a large attachment mechanism.
Corry Bent, senior interior designer at IBI Group, says his company chose Banker Wire because of the beauty of the stainless steel woven wire mesh and the responsiveness of its team. “The finished product is impressive-a clean and simple look that, from a distance, is substantial,” he says. “Everyone who sees the installation touches and comments on it.”
