To consolidate parts of the Public Services Department at a central location, Lawrence Group designed nine buildings clad with metal roofs. The metal cladding creates a consistent appearance among the buildings.
Edgar Zarate, AIA, associate at Lawrence Group, says, “The city wanted to consolidate its public service departments into one complex. Before the project was complete, all the departments were scattered across the city, making it challenging to communicate between departments. This complex will give the city an opportunity to grow in place over the next several years.
“We wanted to provide a flexible office space that provided natural daylighting to all the occupants within a very tight budget. Every building within the complex gives the occupants the ability to see the day shift from morning to evening through the workday.”
Zarate says sustainability and resiliency were key drivers of the design. The complex also functions as an emergency operations center.
“We integrated a 360 kw-ac solar array, four 18,000-gallon rain collection tanks for irrigation, two 750 eKW, 938 kVA backup generators with a 2,700-gallon capacity tank per unit, with a third option design for future connection,” Zarate says. “Also, there are two 1,000-gallon fuel tanks on-site for emergency use.”
Red Dot Buildings installed seven types of MBCI’s metal roof and wall panels. The company installed 24-gauge Galvalume Plus SuperLok panels and 24-gauge steel PBR panels in four finishes: Galvalume Plus, Slate Gray, Hawaiian Blue and Ash Gray.
Red Dot also installed 24-gauge Galvalume Plus PBC panels and 24-gauge steel Artisan panels in three finishes: Galvalume Plus, Hawaiian Blue and Polar White. Perforated Artisan panels in Hawaiian Blue were also used.
The project used 24-gauge steel FW-120 panels in three finishes: Galvalume Plus, Hawaiian Blue and Slate Gray. Additionally, Red Dot installed 24-gauge steel Masterline 16 panels in Charcoal and 24-gauge steel 7.2 Panels in Hawaiian Blue.
