The Mercy Medical New Hope Crisis Center in Freeport, N.Y., is a health care facility for drug and alcohol abuse. Completed in June 2007,the project consisted of a total gut rehab and adaptive reuse of an existing one-story, 11,500-square-foot (1,068-m2) warehouse into a new 30-bed health care facility.
The project utilized 2,600 square feet (242 m2) of 0.032-aluminum Monarch Batten Seam (MRB 160) panels in smooth Hylar 5000 PVDF finish in Rawhide by ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa. The metal wall and roof panels were used to create an inviting, village-type environment. Interior corridors were designed as streets, and the metal wall and roof panels were key components in converting the large, open warehouse space in a community of spaces with exterior-like façades and roofing. The design focus and use of metal panels created a pleasant, welcoming and user friendly environment for the patients that would assist in their rehabilitation.
Hall Partnership Architects LLP, New York, was the architect; Marjam Building Supply, Farmingdale, N.Y., was the distributor; APYR Inc., Brooklyn, N.Y., was the installer; and the builder was a joint venture between Racanelli Construction Co. Inc., Melville, N.Y., and Eugene Racanelli Inc., Hauppauge, N.Y.
