The new
Warwick Lodge Dental Centre in Thorpe Bay, Essex, England, utilizes a TitanSilver metal roof by Kalzip Inc., Michigan City, Ind. TitanSilver is a durable and malleable, lightweight and corrosion-resistant building material.

“I was very keen to create a Scandinavian inspired roofline, free of unsightly gutters and so I worked with cu.tech.zn.ornamenta to help devise a system for managing heavy rainfall conditions,” said Roge Coombs of MPC Consultants. “Our collaboration resulted in the design, testing and construction of three diagonal water diverters located above the balcony areas on either end of the main roof.”

The TitanSilver’s diagonal welts are 1.57-inch- (40-mm-) high to channel the rainfall intothe central section of the roof and down into gutters hidden at low level. To avoid stressing any of the TitanSilver panels, they were precurved in the roofing contractor’s workshop using a template so that each panel was accurately formed beforehand and then transported to the site in 8.2-foot (2.5-m) lengths with the smaller bespoke verge panels, according to Coombs. The TitanSilver roof also blends in with the galvanized structural beams and contrasts with the building’s cedar cladding.

MPC Consultants, Essex, was the architect was the architect, and cu.tech.zn.ornamental ltd., Kent, England, was the roofing contractor.
