To draw attention to the entrance at Dr. Abby Fox Rooney Elementary School, Architechnics Inc. designed custom metal cladding in horizontal bands of various sizes wrapping around it. The bands of aluminum panels are staggered and slightly vary in two light gray colors.
Jacques Reynolds, architect at Architechnics, says the panels met project goals for durability and aesthetics. “The metal panels are reserved only for this application and bring prominence to the front door into the school. The aesthetic appeal that occurs due to the inherent clean lines and crisp texture of metal panels achieves the design goals that were sought after.”
To complete the project, Jerry Maas Construction Inc., general contractor for the project, installed 1,500 square feet of Dri-Design’s 0.08-inch aluminum wall panels in a variety of sizes in two custom, light grays.
Reynolds says the metal panels fit with industry and agriculture found in Quincy. “The design supports the curriculum path that the students take and the materials draw inspiration from the local industrial-agricultural community,” he says.
Dr. Abby Fox Rooney Elementary School is a new, K-5, 69,500-square-foot school building with capacity for 600 students.
