While the tropics may conjure up images of comfort, the owners of a residence in San Juan, Puerto Rico used a little ingenuity to enhance its outdoor entertaining space. This newly designed terrace is enclosed with galvanized painted steel tubing and topped by a mobile aluminum louver system, painted white to fit the décor. Energy efficiency was at the forefront of the resulting space with Equinox solar power operated louvers by Plano, Texas-based Amerimax Building Products Inc. and a high-efficiency Isis fan from the Big Ass Fan Co., Lexington, Ky. Puerto Rico’s beautiful weather allows the fan to be used year-round, while the operable louvers offer protection from the daytime sun or allow natural light when desired.
