Metal wall panels clad a vertical addition to the Generose building at Mayo Clinic Hospital’s Saint Marys Campus. Metal was specified, in part, because the existing brick building and foundation would not be able to support the weight of a brick addition.

The 150,000-square-foot addition, built on top of five existing floors, has metal composite material (MCM) panels and insulated metal panels (IMPs), both in gray colors. Half of the addition houses a consolidated physical medicine and rehabilitation space. The other half is shelled, empty space with an undetermined future use.

On the façade of the upper-level addition, MG Mc- Grath Inc. fabricated and installed 45,000 square feet Fairview Architectural North America’s Vitrabond MCM with a flat Faux Zinc Charcoal finish. MG McGrath installed the MCM panels with its D-Set style panel system.

At the bottom of a skyway that connects the hospital to the Generose building, MG McGrath installed 17,000 square feet of Vitrabond MCM in Faux Zinc Charcoal. MG McGrath installed the MCM with Knight Wall Systems Inc.’s rainscreen attachment system. The largest MCM panels, oriented vertically on the building, are 4 feet wide by 17 feet, 6 inches long.

At a penthouse and roof enclosures, MG McGrath installed 17,000 square feet of CENTRIA’s 2 3/4-inchthick Formawall Dimension Series IMPs with an embossed Velvet Grey finish.
