The 230,000-square-foot (21,367-m2) Health Sciences Building at the University
of Missouri-Kansas City features classroom, lab, research and office space for
the nursing and pharmacy schools. Metal was used for the state-of-the-art
building to provide aesthetic options in terms of color, texture and form while
providing the durability and performance needed for the campus addition.
Moon Township, Pa.-based CENTRIA supplied 17,000 square feet (1,579 m2) of 22-gauge Concept Series CS-200 metal panels in Chromium Gray with a smooth Duragard coating; 2,500 square feet (232 m2) of 0.040-inch
(1-mm) aluminum EcoScreen Perforated Screenwall Concept Series CS-260 in Chromium Gray with a smooth perforated Duragard coating; and 16,000 square feet (1,486 m2) of 22-gauge Versawall in Regal White with an embossed Fluorofinish coating.
Located on the roof of the building, the Versawall factory-foamed wall panel system was used as a backup to the horizontal Concept Series panels. They were used to conceal rooftop heating and cooling equipment, while at the same time, to add a modern element to the brick building. EcoScreen Perforated Screenwall Concept Series was integrated to mask equipment and allow for ventilation of the roof units.
The Clark Enersen Partners, Kansas City, Mo., was the architect; Walton Construction Co., Kansas City, was the contractor; and Mays-Maune & Associates Inc., Fenton, Mo., was the dealer.
