Hotel saves on construction costs with metal tile panels

Several years ago the La Quinta Inn and Suites management did a cost analysis that determined using Ontario, Calif.-based Met-Tile’s lightweight metal tile panels would reduce substructure requirements while saving on construction costs compared to previously used concrete tiles. Since then, Met-Tile has been used for a number of both new construction and renovation projects for La Quinta properties.

The La Quinta Inn and Suites in Rifle, Colo., is situated among the mountain vistas of the Colorado River Valley. The three-story hotel has 114 rooms, 29 suites, a conference facility and indoor pool.

The facility features approximately 28,000 square feet (2,601 m2) of Met-Tile’s tile facsimile roof system in a Spanish Red Tile color. Specialty Finishes Co., Fontana, Calif., provided the SMP paint finish that meets Energy Star guidelines for solar reflectivity. The 26-gauge Zincalume steel panels come in 3-foot
(0.9-m) widths and varying lengths up to 20 feet (6 m). The panel’s superior weather resistance and snow-shedding abilities make it ideal for the Colorado Rockies weather conditions. The main hotel opened in May 2006 and an addition was completed in September 2007.

Rifle Hospitality, Rifle, was the owner/developer; Associated Architects, Denver, was the architect; The Wright Group, Grand Junction, Colo., was the general contractor; and Mullenax Roofing, Rifle, was the roofing installer.
