Completed in July 2008, the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, features a metal building and roof from Eufaula, Ala.-based American Buildings Co. The 241,000-square-foot (22,38-m2) building is a landmark facility that connects to the existing Penticton Trade and Convention Center. The single-slope pre-engineered building houses the community rink.

American Buildings supplied its Low Profile Single Slope metal building system and its Standing Seam II metal roof system in Reflective White. The American Buildings engineers were able to incorporate the required slope wall along the front face of the building into the design. The sloped wall projected 3 feet (1 m) out at the eave and required unique girt-to-column connections. Additionally, the project had special loading conditions due to the adjacent building that the engineers were able to overcome.

Chernoff Thompson Architects, Vancouver, British Columbia, along with NORR Ltd., Vancouver, were the architects; Giffels Associates Ltd., Vancouver, was the general contractor; Wheelwright Group Inc., Toronto, was the builder; and Metal Structure Concepts Inc., Kelowna, British Columbia, was the erector.
