Sayre Elementary School, Sayre, Okla., recently underwent a three-month roofing project that was designed to give the campus more visibility. Metal Roof Contractors, Edmond, Okla., installed more than 43,760 square feet (4,065 m2) of new roof, along with a bell tower, allowing the school to incorporate modern elements into educational traditions.

Based on current building codes, Sayre Elementary was oversized, so it was divided into three separate and distinct fire areas to meet building and fire codes. An automatic sprinkler system was installed into the new attic.

The majority of the roof was intended to be as cost effective as possible by designing the main section with a new, low-sloped 1/2:12 roof system using Ultra Seam US200Galvalume roof panels from McElroy Metal Inc., Bossier City, La. The front entrance was designed to be more visible with a 3:12 roof slope that utilized Ultra Seam US200 prefinished Kynar roof panels. McElroy also furnished the Galvalume and Brandywine coil, and Building Products Development,Edmond, furnished the panel clips.

Architect John Buckley, Architectural Roofing Consultants, Norman, Okla., stated that the purpose of the raised entry and bell tower was to give the campus visibility from the highway while evoking a sense of pride from the students and community.
