Rental Car Center Uses Metal Fabric in Elevator Cabs

When the new Rental Car Center at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., underwent a $695 million expansion to house a number of car companies all under one roof, Cambridge, Md.-based Cambridge Architectural’s Plaza metal fabric pattern, supported by Panel attachment hardware, was chosen to adorn the interior walls of the elevator cabs. Selected for its aesthetics and durability, the rigid metal fabric performs well in high-traffic areas and also masks dents or scratches because of their texture and depth.

The Plaza metal fabric is woven exactly like a fine fabric, yet it is practically indestructible, providing an ideal panel solution. The Plaza metal fabric features rigid closed weaves affixed to substrates and installed in elevator cabs or as wall, floor, ceiling and façade panels. Cambridge’s Panel attachment system was used to install the Plaza product. The metal fabric is first attached to a substrate such as MDF, and Z-clips join the panels to the substructure. Spillis Candela DMJM, Miami, was the project architect.
