Foster City Elementary School, Foster City, Calif.

A leaky roof that led to water and mold damage at Foster City Elementary School[1], Foster City, Calif., a 26-year-old-facility, was replaced during an extensive 63,200-square-foot renovation that included a new building envelope, expansion of the administration area and library, and a new gymnasium.

New buildings created a courtyard space, which is surrounded by fresh facilities, and blended with existing buildings. WLC Architects Inc., Berkeley, Calif., designed the project.

CENTRIA, Moon Township, Pa., supplied 8,683 square feet of 22/26-gauge Formawall Dimension Series 3-inch horizontal insulated metal panels (IMP) in Light Seawolf with a smooth finish and Duraguard Plus coating; 5,677 square feet of 22-gauge Formawall Dimension Series 2-inch Horizontal IMPs in Light Seawolf with a smooth and Duraguard Plus coating; 3,495 square feet of 20-gauge Concept Series CS-660 concealed fastener panels in Pebble with a smooth finish and Duraguard Plus coating; and 4,020 square feet of MetalWrap panels. BT Mancini Co., Milpitas, Calif., was the dealer/installer.

The aesthetic properties of Formawall used to renovate existing structures complemented the new buildings on the small campus. The wall appears continuous without any breaks due to trim-less panel ends and visible fasteners. CENTRIA’s MetalWrap Series insulated composite backup panels were specified to address the moisture issue at the school and reduce installation time. Roebbelen Contracting Inc., El Dorado Hills, Calif., was the general contractor.
