The unique metal and glass façade of the Pacific Medical Center in Costa Mesa, Calif., sets the building apart from others in the area. Metal wall panels from Kingspan API, Modesto, Calif., and Morin, Bristol, Conn., contribute to the new building’s desired aesthetic while delivering significant energy performance.
The Pacific Medical Center is a private developer that provides clinical support services for its patients and is located next to the Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, which is atop the list of the finest medical facilities in Southern California.
“At the time of its construction, the city of Costa Mesa did not have a first-class medical office building of this quality and proximity to Hoag Hospital,” said Michael Fuller, architect, HOK Architects, Los Angeles. “The use of metal panels and glass to reflect the high-tech function of the building distinguishes it from its neighbors. Since its construction, the center has served as a catalyst for other commercial and high-tech development in the area.”
More than 60,000 square feet (5,574 m2) of Centurywall (CWP-H) insulated wall panels by Kingspan API were applied to the building, providing design flexibility and a contemporary, fresh look. Centurywall horizontal panels are used to create a modern, high-tech appearance where a flat, horizontal architectural metal wall system is desired.
In addition to aesthetic reasons, Centurywall panels were selected for its economy and energy performance characteristics, Fuller said.
Also used was 4,500 square feet (418 m2) of Morin’s VB-36 exposed fastener panels in Kynar Metallic Pewter by Valspar, Minneapolis. The general contractor was Millie & Severson, Los Angeles, and the installer was Alumawall, San Jose, Calif.
