Stylish tanning salon

The 1,300-square-foot (121-m2) Euro Sol in Austin, Texas, was looking to create a cool and stylish environment for its small private tanning salon. Eurosol offers seven private rooms with tanning beds and booths, as well as one for massage therapy.

To maximize the store’s narrow space, most of the rooms run along a double-loaded corridor with the front two rooms occupying a bulging space that projects into the corridor, allowing a transition to occur from the sunlit waiting area in the front to the cool, spa-like environment in the back. The bulging space is covered with cleanable fabric, while the walls in the back are clad in paint-grip metal to further emphasize the cool space contrasting with the tanning process and provide the stylish sleekness sought by the owner. The metallic theme continues in the bathroom where the use of metal walls and a stainless-steel sink emphasize the tinny coolness. The selected metal tones play off of the cool blue glow of the tanning beds when in use. The tanning salon stands out with a custom metal receptionist counter and stainless-steel vents and light fixtures. Drexel Metals LLC, Ivyland, Pa., supplied 520 square feet (48 m2) of 24-gauge paint-grip steel metal wall panels for the project.
