U.S. Air Force building at Hurlburt Field, Hurlburt Field, Fla.

An aging metal roof on a 7,800-square-foot U.S. Air Force building at Hurlburt Field, Hurlburt Field, Fla., was retrofitted with a new metal roof without tearing off the existing roof. Hurlburt Field is part of the Eglin Air Force Base reservation in Okaloosa County.

To complete the roof-over project, Royster Contracting LLC attached 2,700 feet of Roof Hugger LLC’s Model C factory-notched sub-purlins directly to the existing roof’s support system. Model C fits over 12-inch on-center PBR rib panels.

Royster Contracting installed 3 inches of fiberglass insulation between the existing and new roofs, and, over top, Central States Manufacturing Inc.’s 24-inch-wide, 24-gauge Central Seam Plus standing seam roof system in Brite White. The system meets Category V for hurricanes with a wind speed of 157 mph. The project was completed in November 2018.
