A water feature at Grand Vista apartment complex, Los Angeles, created with Mukwonago, Wis.-based Banker Wire’s[1] mesh emphasizes the connection between the building’s Studio City neighborhood location and the movie industry by providing a canvas for multimedia entertainment.

North Hollywood, Calif.-based ARTBOX construction Inc. designed and built the waterfall feature at the 150,000-square-foot complex, which caters largely to members of the movie industry. Banker Wire’s M13Z-247 mesh was selected for its long, straight sections of horizontally oriented wire, woven together with tight groupings of three vertically oriented wires. Residents of its 125 luxury units can play videos or slide shows on the woven wire mesh with a curtain of water that acts as a projection screen.

At other times, the waterfall provides a relaxing enclave. Translucent when not in use as a projection screen, the mesh and water filter natural light and create the sound of rain, intended to bring a sense of tranquility, to the space.

Babak Emanuel, principal at ARTBOX construction, says they would use Bank Wire for woven wire mesh again. “Banker Wire’s quality of products and attention to detail helped ARTBOX construction Inc. achieve a beautiful and functional installation,” he says.

The water feature was designed to be environmentally friendly, using low-voltage electricity, highefficiency equipment, recycled water and Banker Wire mesh, which is composed of 80- to 85-percent post-consumer and 12- to 18-percent pre-consumer recycled steel.
