Scope: The Lilyfield House in Sydney, Australia, presents a modern extension to the original cottage home. From the street, the addition presents a striking geometric counterpart to the traditional pitched roof profile of the original house. The original weatherboard house maintains its integrity as a larger worker’s cottage with narrow weatherboards and functional details, while the addition is a reinterpretation of the two-story cottage.

Details: The addition features a living area with children’s loft above, study nook, kitchen and dining area. The living area and loft are connected by a void, which forms the termination of the circulation spine extending from the existing corridor through the new spaces.

The project utilizes approximately 538 square feet (50 m2) of Norcross, Ga.-based Hunter Douglas’ Commercial Multipanel 200 Façade System
(MPF 200) in HD Color-Cote Façade Grey, along with a mono-pitch roof that rises to a steep peak. The architect was Nobbs Radford Architects, Sydney, and the builder was Dorahy Construction, Stanwell Park, Australia.
