Congratulations to the 2011 Metal Architecture Design Award Winners

Metal's role in architecture takes center stage this month with the announcement of the winners of the 2011 Metal Architecture Design Awards. This is always one of my favorite times of the year at Metal Architecture, mainly because I love looking at all of the cool projects. It never ceases to amaze me how architects are pushing the design envelope and the interesting ways in which metal is being used in those designs.

Choosing the winners for Metal Architecture's annual Design Awards is always a difficult and challenging task for our judges' panel. With more than 100 submissions, this year was no different. I would like to thank our three judges-Tony Cosentino, Andrew Cottrell and Mark Dewalt-for taking the time to go through all of the entries and come to an agreement on all of the winners.

This year's winners really know how to make metal shine in their designs, with projects located everywhere from San Diego to New York, and Canada to Qatar. As the grand award winner, Randall Stout's Art Gallery of Alberta leads the pack, which includes two buildings on college campuses that are a part of the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona.

Congratulations to all of the Design Award winners. And to all of the architects, keep designing. I can't wait to see what projects grace the pages of the magazine in the future.
