ATAS International Inc., based in Allentown, Pa., is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The family-owned company transitioned from a siding and trim installer to a manufacturer of metal panels with locations across the U.S. Aluminum Trim and Shapes was founded in 1963 by Jacobus “Jack” P. Bus in his residence’s basement in Rochester, N.Y., where he and wife, Nel Bus, and children lived. Prior to the advent of portable forming equipment, Jack Bus supplied bent trim and other products to contractors.
In 1985, ATAS moved to Allentown. Eventually, Jack and Nel Bus’s sons, Dick Bus and Jim Bus, took over the business as president and executive vice president. The third generation of Buses now works at ATAS; Mark Bus is national sales manager, and Eric Bus is operations manager. Also, at Brightsmith LLC coil coating, based in Morrisville, Pa., Tiffany Hutcheson is general manager, and Tony Bus is operations manager.
ATAS has two locations in Allentown, as well as facilities in Mesa, Ariz., and University Park, Ill. Brightsmith acquired ATAS’s coil coating facility in in 2008, and its post-painting facility in Trenton, N.J., in 2016.
