ARCOM to Support USGBC’s LEED v4

ARCOM will update MasterSpec to incorporate U S. Green Building Council‘s LEED v4. USGBC’s LEED v4 is the new rating system USGBC unveiled at the 2013 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo.

ARCOM is carefully evaluating the requirements set forth by LEED v4, a new, more flexible green building rating system with updated technical content and more efficient, user-friendly tools. After assessing its impacts on MasterSpec and design professionals, LEED v4 will be fully integrated into MasterSpec to ensure customers have the most current and relevant information possible. This will be an intensive process that will take several months to complete. As these new requirements are phased in, MasterSpec will continue to support LEED 2009 beyond June 2015, the deadline for project registration under this version.

“These new LEED requirements will have far reaching impact. ARCOM is committed to quickly integrating USGBC’s latest rating system into MasterSpec,” said Paul Brosnahan, AIA, CCS, ARCOM’s Vice President of Architectural Specifications. “This will make it simple and easy for MasterSpec licensees to ensure they are incorporating the requirements of LEED v4.”

To further support greening initiatives, ARCOM is also looking into including requirements provided by the following organizations:

  • The Green Globes Building Rating System – An interactive building environmental design and management tool that includes online assessment protocol, a rating system, and guidance for designing, operating, and managing green buildings.
  • International Code Council’s 2012 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) – A code that regulates construction of new and remodeled commercial buildings and is the first model code to feature sustainability measures for the entire construction project and its site, from design through occupancy.
  • ASHRAE Standard 189.1: Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings – A standard providing a foundation for green buildings; it is a compliance option in the IgCC.
