CENTRIA, Moon Township, Pa., recently released a viewpoint brochure that demonstrates how pursuing Cradle to Cradle Certification has helped the company contribute to a more sustainable environment. The piece outlines the fundamental framework of the Cradle to Cradle Certification process as well as the steps CENTRIA has taken within that framework as a socially responsible corporate citizen and the premier supplier of architectural metal wall and roof systems used in commercial/industrial applications. “For CENTRIA, Cradle to Cradle Certification helps inform our vision of sustainability as well as offers us a practical, tangible way to deliver on that vision,” said Mark Thimons, Senior Product Research Associate, CENTRIA. “Since developing the first-ever exterior wall system to earn Cradle to Cradle Certification, CENTRIA has worked in concert with MBDC to continuously improve our products’ sustainable qualities.” Founded in 1995 by world-renowned architect William McDonough and chemist Michael Braungart, MBDC is a consulting and certification firm that helps clients create a positive environmental impact by implementing the Cradle to Cradle framework. A Cradle to Cradle Certified product must meet requirements in the following five categories: material health (impact on human and environmental health), material reutilization (recyclability/compostability and recycled/renewable content), renewable energy use, water stewardship and social responsibility. Products can be certified at four levels: Basic, Silver, Gold or Platinum. CENTRIA has 12 Silver-certified product lines and one product line, EcoScreen® Perforated Screenwall, which is Gold-certified.
