The consolidation of Boyd County, Ky. judicial services from several locations including an aging 100-year-old courthouse into a modern new Judicial Center has been accepted. Located in Catlettsburg, Ky., the 61,000 square foot (5,667 m2) facility provides state-of-the-art courtrooms and administrative space. More than 30,000 square feet (2,787 m2) of Citadel material in two different systems was utilized in exterior and interior applications. Approximately 24,000 square feet (2,230 m2) of Citadel’s Envelope 2000 metal composite material (MCM) clads the three-story structure. The panels were installed using the Reveal (RV) System, a field assembled attachment method utilizing perimeter moldings, and finished in Bone White. The new facility connects to the existing courthouse and jail via an overhead walkway. The interior of the pedway utilized approximately 6,000 square feet (557 m2) of Citadel’s Panel 15 system.
“The Citadel panels interface nicely with masonry,” according to Rick Kremer, president and project architect. “The metal shows the progressive nature of the city while the masonry speaks to its history.” One of the big advantages of the Envelope 2000 RV System involves scheduling,” said Steve Black, project manager. “Since it is all field-cut, that allows us to get the material into the field very quickly and get started on the job. With other systems, you have to have full, precise dimensions before any fabrication can begin. RV is a great, quality system.”
