Kenseal to distribute accel-E S.T.E.P.

Kenseal Construction Products, Charlotte, N.C., has been named an exclusive distributor of the accel-E Steel Thermal Efficient Panel wall system, an innovative building product produced by ACCELERATED Building Technologies of Moon Township, Pa., that combines framing, insulation and sheathing into a single, highly energy efficient wall system. The company operates two facilities in North Carolina including Raleigh and Charlotte.

“We believe this remarkable new system has the potential to greatly improve energy efficiency and construction efficiency in commercial applications,” said Scott Hauser, regional sales manager. “It has already been proven in a number of successful installations in a variety of settings nationwide, and we are delighted to offer it to architects and contractors in our area.”

The accel-E S.T.E.P. system panels are produced using a proprietary technology that fuses specially designed cold-formed steel framing members and expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation into a continuous building envelope system. The panels overcome many common problems such as thermal bridging, insulation gaps and sagging, and irregularities in the installation of conventional framing and insulation. The panels’ locking joints also offer superior resistance to air infiltration. The accel-E S.T.E.P. panels can improve wall assembly energy performance by as much as 60 percent and can reduce labor costs by up to 50 percent over conventional framing. The system can also dramatically reduce jobsite waste. As a result of these and other factors, the system can contribute points to as many as four LEED categories. In addition, the time required to erect walls can be reduced by as much as 66 percent. The panel design also simplifies other phases of the construction process. For example, window and door openings are pre-cut, and an open cavity simplifies the installation of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. The panels can be used both in load bearing and as curtain walls for bypass or in-fill, and can be finished in virtually any exterior cladding material. This makes the accel-E system well-suited to a variety of design situations in commercial applications, as well as in residential construction. The accel-E system fully complies with both the 2006 International Building Code and the 2006 International Residential Code.
