Metal railings evoke Chattanooga’s industrial history in a stadium design

On the former site of the Wheland Foundry in Chattanooga, Tenn., Erlanger Park pays homage to its location’s historical significance with its metal design elements.

The sport, concert, and event venue opened to the public in April 2026. For one of Minor League Baseball’s longest-running franchises, the Chattanooga Lookouts, the park provides a seating capacity of more than 8,000 people.

The design uses approximately 8,800 ft (2,682.2 m) of black anodized guardrail, drink rail, and aluminum pipe railing systems. This includes matte-black powder-coated mesh infill panels, framed with 10-gauge galvanized steel wire, in a 3 x 3 in. (76.2 x 76.2 mm) square mesh pattern.

The detailing references the manufacturing history of Chattanooga’s South Broad neighborhood while supporting sightlines, circulation, and fan safety throughout the stadium. Perforated drink rail tops were also incorporated in areas exposed to direct sunlight to improve fan comfort and reduce heat buildup.

Set against Lookout Mountain and the revitalized South Broad neighborhood, Erlanger Park combines contemporary fan amenities with architectural references to Chattanooga’s industrial legacy.
