John J. Hoffmann, FAIA, was selected as the recipient of the 2026 Silver Medal from the University of Hartford’s Gamma Nu Chapter of the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society for Architecture and the Allied Arts.

“We would like to take this opportunity to recognize John Hoffmann for his outstanding design work and years of service to the profession and the academy,” said Dr. Theodore Randall Sawruk, Ed.D., NOMA, Assoc. AIA, Associate Professor of Architecture and Tau Sigma Delta Faculty Advisor.

Hoffmann is the founder and executive chair of Hoffmann Architects + Engineers, a design firm specializing in the rehabilitation of building exteriors.

He was awarded the Tau Sigma Delta Silver Medal—the highest honor bestowed by the University of Hartford chapter to a practicing professional who has demonstrated distinction in design in the field of architecture, landscape architecture, or the allied arts.

During the same ceremony, the Gamma Nu Chapter recognized University of Hartford student Reilly McGrath with the Tau Sigma Delta Bronze Medal for distinction in design in the field of architecture, landscape architecture, or the allied arts.

A national honor society for architecture and design students, Tau Sigma Delta admits members whose academic performance places them in the top 10 percent of the student body and who have demonstrated not only scholastic achievement, but also leadership and character.

Tau Sigma Delta members presented Hoffmann and McGrath with their medals at the Gamma Nu Chapter’s annual luncheon in April.

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the Grand Chapter of the Tau Sigma Delta awarded the gold medal to Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, co-founders of Grafton Architects, in January.
