Design firm Thiel & Team is progressing with the interior transformation of The Baker Hotel & Spa, an iconic landmark in Mineral Wells, Tex. The firm’s ongoing work centers on crafting an inviting and memorable guest experience, honoring the hotel’s storied past, and preparing it for a vibrant future as the welcoming focal point of the community.
Recognizing the enduring spirit of The Baker Hotel & Spa, a place where legends like Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, and Lawrence Welk once found respite, Thiel & Team is approaching this project with a gentle touch and a focus on creating spaces that resonate with warmth and comfort for modern-day guests. The goal is to weave the hotel’s rich history into a contemporary experience, ensuring that future guests feel embraced by its legacy and delighted by modern comforts.
“At The Baker Hotel & Spa, our design approach is rooted in honoring the building’s storied past while ensuring it meets today’s standards of comfort and safety,” explained the design team. “One example is the interior Juliette balcony railing—a metalwork detail that is being carefully refurbished, along with original railings at the mezzanine level. Where the historic railings fall below current safety code requirements, we’re introducing new railings that are historically appropriate in both scale and detailing, preserving the visual integrity of the original design. This careful balance continues throughout the property, including the restoration of the iconic metal railing along the sky deck at the top of the hotel. Every element reflects our commitment to timeless beauty, thoughtful preservation, and a restorative guest experience.”
