Sustainable metal building products featured in May 2022 issue of Metal Architecture

VM Building Solutions USA

VM Building’s VMZINC rolled zinc products are produced with manufacturing processes with a low environmental impact including energy consumption. With proper installation, zinc cladding can last more than 100 years. Zinc is recyclable and can add LEED credits. Environmental product declarations (EPDs) for VMZINC are available.

Draper Inc.

Draper’s FlexLouver rack arm systems are energy positive. The exterior/interior systems are long-lasting solar control solutions to reduce heat gain and HVAC energy use. To control light, operable aluminum louvers rotate from zero degrees to 90 degrees. FlexLouver systems have three parts: louvers, rack arms and drive mechanisms. Aluminum rack arms affix to structures. Drive mechanisms operate the louvers, which are 80-mm to 160-mm aluminum. FlexLouver systems have motorized and manual operation.

SunStyle

SunStyle’s solar shingles create a combined structural roof and solar module. Solar shingles don’t need traditional roofing shingles with solar panels. The solar roof can be installed on roofs with pitches of minimum 2:12, or 17% slope. Its support structure handles near vertical applications. Quantities of photovoltaic shingles and metal composite material (MCM) panels are specified for individual roofs.

Exterior Technologies Inc.’s (EXTECH)

Diffusing characteristics of EXTECH’s LIGHTWALL 3450 Series cellular polycarbonate glazing provides energy-efficient daylighting, lowers dependence on electric lighting and reduces solar heat gain. Because it is a dry-glazed system, VOC emissions are reduced. LIGHTWALL 3450’s 50-mm structural cellular polycarbonate glazing is insulating and recyclable. Also, the system is produced with recycled aluminum framing.

CENTRIA

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal panels (IMPs) have polyisocyanurate insulation without halogens. High insulation value reduces energy consumption for HVAC and lighting. The IMPs are Red List free and have a UL-certified environmental product declaration. They exceed the standards of ASTM C518 and ASTM C1363 certifications. A health product declaration is available.

S-5!

S-5!’s PVKIT is a directly attached solar panel mounting system. PVKIT comprises three aluminum and stainless steel components and has less material than rail-based systems. It is tested, approved and warranted. Strength is tested in ASTM 17025 accredited labs to UL17023, ITL 1703, FM 4471 and (German) DIBt. PVKIT is warranted for the life of the roof.

Metl-Span

Metl-Span’s CF Mesa insulated metal panels (IMPs) have concealed clips and interlocking joints without thermal bridging. The IMPs have CFC-free foamed-in-place PUR foam cores and are 100% recyclable. They can provide R-values from R-17.5 to R-70 at 35 degrees with thicknesses from 2 inches to 8 inches, and reduces energy consumption.
