Architects achieve desired color scheme with metal

Completed in September 2008, the 321,000-squarefoot (29,821-m2) One Lincoln Park in Denver is a multipurpose high-end condominium project with retail stores located on the ground level. The 32-story building was built to provide luxury housing conveniently located in the heart of downtown Denver.

The project features a variety of metal panels from Moon Township, Pa.-based CENTRIA, including 78,540 square feet (7,296 m2) of 22/26- gauge Formawall Dimension Series 2-inch (51-mm) horizontal wall panels in Cambridge White with a smooth Fluorofinish coating and 1,375 square feet (128 m2) of 22-gauge Profile Series IW-10A vertical wall panels in Champagne Pearl with a smooth Sundance Mica coating.

The building footprint was the size of the site, posing space restrictions for staging and no space for storage. To overcome these restrictions, the building team opted for unitized construction, using a proprietary installation system developed by A-1 Glass Inc., Englewood, Colo. The unitized panels were constructed in a controlled environment off site and integrated with CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series foam insulated panels. The large unitized panels were trucked to the site and hoisted into place. The unique installation system offered improved air and water resistance at the joints in exterior curtainwall installations of cold-formed/lightgauge exterior steel and framing assemblies, while also accommodating vertical movement.

Metal helped the architect achieve the desired color scheme for the building, including crisp white and champagne tones, while the lightweight panels were easy to install and reduced the weight of the façade. Additionally, CENTRIA’s metal insulated panels integrated directly with the window system joinery, giving the building a clean look with no exposed sealant. The Formawall Dimension Series and IW Series panels are Cradle to Cradle Silver certified.

Buchanan Yonushewski Group LLC, Denver, was the architect, and Swinerton Builders Inc., Arvada, Calif., was the contractor.
