Branding Identity With Metal

Atkinson Toyota Scion in Bryan, Texas, is among the top 2 percent of Toyota dealers in the United States, having received the coveted Toyota President’s Award for the last seven consecutive years. In 2006 when the dealership needed more space, the owners of the 25-year-old dealership commissioned architects R.L. Payne & Associates Inc. of College Station, Texas, to almost triple the size of the showroom, reconfigure the service areas and update the look of the aging facility in accordance with Toyota’s current corporate construction guidelines.

The architects’ design for the dealership integrated the addition with the existing building and unified the structure with a new façade of Reynobond Aluminum Composite Material by Eastman, Ga.-based Alcoa Architectural Products. The overall size of the building more than doubled-from 19,000 square feet (1,765 m2) to over 40,000 square feet (3,716 m2). Existing interior spaces were reconfigured to flow seamlessly into the addition. State-of-the-art systems and technology were incorporated throughout the building. In keeping with the Atkinson philosophy of customer service, the architects designed a unique radiused corner that provides an unobstructed view of the showroom and sales areas from every office. To implement that element of the design, the architects and owners had to seek approval from Toyota for an exception to corporate guidelines.

AlumiTec Enterprises, Katy, Texas, fabricated and installed 15,000 square feet (1,394 m2) of Reynobond ACM, 0.16-inch (4-mm), PE Core in Toyota Silver with a Colorweld 300 LF finish; 3,500 square feet
(325 m2) of Reynobond ACM, 0.16-inch, PE Core in Toyota Red with a Colorweld 300 LF finish; 500 square feet (46 m2) of Reynobond ACM, 0.16-inch, PE Core in Toyota Black with a Colorweld 300 finish; and 15,000 square feet of Reynolux Profile panels in Bone White with a Colorweld 300 finish. The Toyota Silver Reynobond ACM was used on the exterior walls, column covers and soffits; the Toyota Red Reynobond ACM was used as an accent stripe running around the public side of the building and as an accent above the windows to the horizontal break; and the Toyota Black Reynobond ACM was used to designate a 10-foot by 10-foot (3-m by 3-m) area of the showroom as the Scion dealership. The Reynolux Profile panels were installed on the Service Drive soffits. Madison Construction, Bryan, served as the general contractor for the project.
