On the site of a former motel, Altis Cardinal LLC developed CubeSmart Self Storage. Retail space is on the first floor and self storage space occupies three floors above. Access to storage units is through interior corridors, so the storage units are hidden.
Performance Contracting Inc. installed two types of Kingspan Insulated Panels Inc.’s insulated metal panels (IMPs) in three colors: KS Azteco IMPs in Driftwood and Ascot White, and KS Micro-Rib IMPs in Zinc Gray.
Pat Pillot, of Patrick M. Pillot Architect Inc., architecture firm for the CubeSmart Self Storage facility, says, “We’re seeing more and more insulated metal panels in self storage.”
Matt Houtman, estimator at Performance Contracting, says, IMPs are increasingly used for self storage projects his firm works on. “You’re able to eliminate conventional metal studs, insulation, drywall, and you can do the entire building envelope with one panel. Metal panels provide the insulation and weather barrier all in one system, versus having multiple trades and multiple pieces doing that.”
